Television talk show host Mrs Rebecca Chisamba walked away as the Outstanding Woman in the Use of Mass Media for Gender Equality Award.
In her acceptance speech, Minister Muchena said the awards were a true recognition of the pivotal role played by women in nation building.
“This is an award for the women of Zimbabwe. I know as a politician I speak at many occasions but on this (occasion), I feel very happy and want to say thank you to the women of Zimbabwe,” she said.
Miss Zimbabwe patron Kiki Divaris, actress Susan Chenjerai, popularly known as “Amai Rwizi” in the Mukadota drama series, and Women University in Africa Vice Chancellor Dr Hope Sadza were some of the women honoured.
Addressing the gathering, KM Financial Solutions chief executive Mr Kenias Mafukidze said honouring the achievements of women in society was one way Zimbabwe
would meet the targeted US$100 billion economy by the year 2040.
He said more Zimbabwean women should be involved in economic matters.
“This is an era where you (women) cannot afford to do nothing. Your involvement in the economic activities of this country will take us to a period where there are no potholes on our roads, where electricity does not visit us and where our planes actually fly,” he said.
Ecobank and National Foods, through their Mahatma Rice brand, sponsored the awards ceremony.
