Speaking at a graduation ceremony of over 100 nurses at the hospital last week, chief executive officer, Dr Obediah Moyo, said the proposal was being finalised.
“The Private Public Partnership programme proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet by the Secretary for Health and Child Welfare,” he said.
“With US$84,3 million to be injected in the project, we are hoping that the programme would benefit other hospitals as well. Good planning is what also led us to the attainment of International Organisation for Standardisation in March last year.”
Dr Moyo said that Chitungwiza Central Hospital was the first hospital in the Southern Africa region to be ISO certified.
He said that construction of a new block had commenced at the hospital, which would result in accommodation problems among students and teachers being alleviated.
Guest of honour, the vice chancellor of Women University in Africa, Professor Hope Sadza, said the hospital had managed over the years to maintain its position as the best hospital in Zimbabwe.
“The whole of Mashonaland East is catered for at Chitungwiza Central Hospital and has over the years produced comprehensive training programmes,” she said.
“I urge the graduates to understand cross-cultural beliefs because these are sensitive.”
The hospital’s principal tutor, Ms Joyce Chivinge, said the Chitungwiza School of Nursing and Midwifery ran four different training programmes – general nurse, midwifery, clinical officer and State Certified Medical Laboratory training.
