HARARE City Council has regularised 2 030 houses in line with Government policy of ensuring that households have access to basic services like water and sewer reticulation.

This came out during a tour of the area by the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, chaired by Mazowe Central legislator Dr Maxmore Njanji.

Harare City Council’s manager for Region 2, Mr Norman Karidza, told the Committee of the development.

“We have regularised 2 030 houses in terms of provision of water and sewer. We are doing it in phases and we are currently working on over 1 000 more,” he said.

He added that availability of resources was hampering the progress of regularising the houses so that they get services as required.

Mr Karidza told the committee that the area had one primary school to cater for the over 9 000 households in the area.
