Over 2.5 million Covid-19 deaths globally

A TOTAL of 7 238 Covid-19 deaths were recorded globally on March 1, 2021.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as at March 1, the world recorded 113 820 168 cumulative confirmed cases, 2 527 891 deaths.

New Covid -19 cases stood at 347 981.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the African continent recorded 3 905 936 cumulative cases, 104 012 deaths and 3 484 646 recoveries.

According to Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Southern Africa continues to top the region, recording 1 838 637 cumulative cases, 56 555 deaths and 1 699 367 recoveries.

In Zimbabwe, the country recorded 36 115 positive cases, 1 468 deaths and 32 905 recoveries.  The total number of tested people stand at 509 941.

With vaccines now being administered in Africa and strict adherence to WHO prevention guidelines like social distancing, hand washing, and wearing face masks, there is hope that cases will go down.

According to a WHO news release, on March 1, the first Covid -19 vaccination campaigns in Africa using COVAX vaccines doses have been administered in Ghana and Cote d’ Ivoire.

The campaigns are among the first to use the doses provided by the COVAX facility’s GAVI COVAX Advanced Market Commitment (AMC).
