Over 6 000 expected at Zanu-PF conference

About 5 000 people attended last year’s conference held in Mutare, Manicaland provi- nce.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo yesterday said preparations for the event begin tomorrow with a meeting of the conference co-ordinating committee.
“We are meeting as the conference co-ordinating committee on Thursday to discuss issues to do with the conference.

“We will then release a statement after the meeting,” Cde Gumbo said.
It is at this meeting, he said, that a detailed programme for the conference would be formu- lated.

“We are expecting over 6 000 delegates to attend the Bulawayo conference.”
Secretaries general of former liberation movements of the Sadc region will meet on the sidelines of the conference.

At its Mutare conference, Zanu-PF made a number of resolutions, chief among them that the harmonised elections be held this year.
Zanu-PF also endorsed President Mugabe as its candidate in the elections. Failure by Copac to draft a new people-driven constitution on time has, however, delayed the holding of elec- tions.
President Mugabe has expressed concern over the pace at which Copac was drafting the constitution, saying there was no reason for the delay.
