Overcoming fear, embracing God’s plan

“NOW there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, ‘Why stay here until we die? If we say we will go into the city, the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die’.” — 2 Kings 7:3-4

In this story, four lepers found themselves in a desperate situation. Suffering from a deadly disease and trapped in a city under siege, they faced certain death.

Their bold decision was to take a step of faith and surrender to the enemy, hoping for mercy. Their reasoning was simple: “If we stay here, we die. If we go, God will see what He will do.”

Brethren, this is a lesson in faith. When faced with challenges, we have two options: Stay in our comfort zone and perish or take a leap of faith and trust God for the outcome.

The lepers’ decision to move was neither based on human logic nor guaranteed of success. It was based on their recognition of God’s sovereignty and their willingness to trust Him.

As they took that first step, God “amplified” their efforts.

God caused the enemy to hear the sound of chariots and horses, causing him to flee in terror (2 Kings 7:6-7).

The lepers found abundance in the enemy’s camp and their lives were spared. The same God who amplified the lepers’ steps will do the same for you.

When you take a step of faith, He will multiply your efforts and work out His plan for your life.

We all have been in situations where we feel trapped, stuck or uncertain about the future.

Fear of the unknown can paralyse us, causing us to hesitate and question God’s plan.

But the story of the four lepers reminds us that faith is not about having all the answers; it is about taking that first step into the unknown, trusting that God will guide us.

Think about this: How many times have you let fear hold you back from pursuing your dreams, making a change or taking a risk? You might be afraid of failure, rejection or the unknown consequences of your actions.

But the lepers’ story teaches us that playing it safe can lead to stagnation and even death — spiritual, emotional or relational.

When we stay in our comfort zone, we miss out on God’s blessings and opportunities for growth. But when we take a step of faith, we open ourselves up to new experiences, relationships and possibilities.

Whatever your situation, remember the lepers’ words: “If we stay here, we die. If we go, God will see what He will do.”

Take that first step and trust God to magnify your efforts.

Do not let fear hold you back from experiencing God’s best for your life. Step out in faith and watch Him work wonders.

Remember, the greatest leaps of faith often lead to the greatest miracles. You would rather die while doing something. Start taking action. Keep moving. Sitting down is not an option.

You have to keep moving no matter the situation.

As Martin Luther King Jnr once said, if you cannot run, walk, and if you cannot walk, then crawl, but, by all means, keep moving.

So, I ask you today: What is holding you back from taking a step of faith? Is it fear, doubt or uncertainty?

Remember the lepers’ story and take heart. If you stay in your comfort zone, you might miss out on God’s blessings.

But if you take a step of faith, God will notice and He will amplify your steps.
