The Harare selectors were Wellington Ndimutseyi, Edmund Njazi, Tariro Chawafambira, Jimmy Chikange, Terrence Bendito and Peter Lawson for the Harare ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams who said they were looking forward to the event.
“We had selected two strong Harare sides and a development side and it’s a pity the boys will not fully express themselves in rugby this year.
“To call off the event at the last-minute due to early closure of schools came as a big disappointment to the boys when we told them that the games have been cancelled,” said Ndimutseyi.
The team managers Ndimutseyi and Njazi have, however, come up with a school rugby quadrangular tournament which will be held before the schools close.
“We had to come with an alternative where the three sides will play in a quadrangular tournament together with Mashonaland West who had selected their boys side as well.
“The mini-tournament will take place at Hartmann House next week on Tuesday and hopefully the Under-14 Craven Week selectors will be present to have a look at the boys in preparation for next year’s event.
“I am looking forward to the mini-tournament as boys will be fully kitted in their provincial colours and it will be interesting to watch the four sides playing.
“These boys have a lot of talent and they will definitely do well to represent Zimbabwe in their rugby career, as they were geared to bring the trophy home,” said Ndimutseyi.
Harare are the defending champions. Mashonaland West are coached by Donald Campbell and Tan Dinhidza while the Harare Development side is under the guidance of Hubert Denenga and Mubuso Matanga.
