A seven-year-old died last week after falling from a moving ox-drawn cart in Mugumva Village under Chief Makoni’s area and succumbing to the injuries sustained in the freaky accident, it has been learnt.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the sad development.

“The late Brian Tsengerai and Ms Catherine Mutukutu had gone to a nearby forest to fetch firewood with their ox-drawn cart when the incident happened.

“The cart hit a tree stump, resulting in Brian falling off and hitting his head on the ground. He was rushed to Rusape General Hospital where he died upon arrival,” said Inspector Muzondo.

“During our investigations, we established that the cart was being driven without anyone leading the cattle. The accident could have been avoided if they had exercised caution.

“We are therefore appealing to members of the public to exercise extra caution when using ox-drawn carts and avoid speeding as the carts are considered vehicles. Caution should be prioritised to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” said Inspector Muzondo.
