THE photography fraternity in Mutare is in deep mourning following the death of veteran and widely respected photographer, George Zihero.
Zihero (56) died at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital yesterday after a short illness.
Family spokesperson, Ms Barbra Maposa confirmed the death.
Mourners are gathered at House Number P389A, Dangamvura.
Zihero began his photography career in 1996, and quickly established himself as one of Mutare’s finest lensmen.
He once served as a photographer for the now-defunct Eastern Star tabloid in Mutare, where his passion and keen eye for news and human-interest stories earned him admiration from colleagues and readers alike.
Over the years, his professionalism and creativity made him one of the most sought-after photographers in the city, providing services to numerous public and private organisations, as well as generations of families celebrating weddings, graduations, birthdays and other milestones.
Until his death, Zihero operated from Meikles Park in Mutare, where he continued doing what he loved most—capturing smiles and preserving cherished memories for his clients.
His colleague and fellow photographer at Meikles Park, Fungai Madzime, described Zihero as a humble, caring and selfless professional whose passion for photography inspired many.
Funeral arrangements are underway, with burial set for Saturday at Dangamvura Cemetery.
