A SELF proclaimed prophet from Filabusi allegedly raped his client’s nine year old daughter and promised to buy her a school uniform to conceal the matter. The girl’s family had engaged Life Sibanda, 32, of Susaphansi village under Chief Sibasa in Filabusi for “deliverance” when he turned villain.Regional prosecutor Johannes Tlou narrated how Sibanda raped the Grade Four pupil at her home where he was conducting prayers.

Tlou said on January 8, 2014 at around 11AM the accused arrived at the complainant’s homestead and found her with her sister and two other children aged two years.
“The accused then called the complainant into the bedroom where he was and proposed love to her but was turned down,” he said.

“He then instructed the complainant not to tell anyone about what he was about to do and promised to buy her a school uniform as a token of appreciation.”
It is alleged Sibanda undressed the victim and put her on the bed and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

“During sexual intercourse the complainant tried to scream but the accused held her mouth so she could not make any noise,” Tlou said.
The matter came to light when the girl’s mother saw her daughter limping and discovered her underwear was stained with a yellow discharge and blood.

Upon questioning the complainant told her mother about the alleged rape. She reported the matter to the police leading to Sibanda’s arrest. Regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza remanded Sibanda in custody to February 26 for trial after he requested a Tonga interpreter.
