LOOKOUT Paganga accumulated 39 points and was counted in to win the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Commissioner General’s Goodwill Trust Fund Golf tournament held at Hillside Sports Club, Mutare, on Saturday.
The ZPCS Commissioner General Goodwill Trust Fund Golf tournament seek to raise funds for the benefit of orphans, widows, widowers of the ZPCS family and disadvantaged persons from the community.
The tournament, which was hosted by ZPCS Manicaland Province, had golfers from the ZPCS family, other organizations and individuals.
Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu, who is also the patron of Goodwill Trust Fund, was pleased about the success of the tournament which ZPCS Manicaland was hosting for the first since Trust Fund inception.
“It is pleasing to note that the response to this initiative is quite satisfactory. May I therefore hasten to commend the Officer Commanding Manicaland Province, Commissioner Spetosomusa Moyo-Chinobva, for giving due regards to the importance of team work.
“If you work together as a team you manage to do whatever you want and succeed so team work is encouraged, and team work is not only meant for the ZPCS but with the community as well since it is the backbone of everything”, he said.
The ZPCS boss observed the continued growth of the Trust Fund.
“Since the inception of the Goodwill Trust Fund, I have observed that it has continued to grow and the golf fundraising tournament has become an annual event on the service calendar. This growth cannot be topical if it is not for the incredible support from stakeholders”.
“For the benefit of some of us here today who may not be aware, it is on record that the Goodwill Trust Fund has so far been able to fund the educational needs of 357 people and some have already finished basic education, some are now working while others are still at school.
“It has also catered for those with special needs. In this regard, two children from this province have received wheelchairs while the third will get his today,” he said.
Prominent Mutare businessman, Blessing Mangwiro of Big Rock Logistics, who also graced the occasion, made his last year’s pledge come to fruition when he handed over a wheelchair to the Commissioner General.
The beneficiary of the wheelchair is son to Correctional Officer Simbarashe Mutero, who is aged 9.
Officer Mutero who is stationed at Mutare Farm Prison thanked the Commissioner General Chihobvu, Commissioner Moyo-Chinobva and the benefactor, Mangwiro, for the help, highlighting that it will make his son’s life much easier.
Mangwiro pledged five more wheelchairs which he promised to deliver within a period of 60 days.
In addition, the businessman also pledged US$10 000 to fight drug and substance abuse in Manicaland through the Goodwill Trust Fund.
