old Rutendo and three-year old Kudakwashe, were supposed to have gone for the operation in February but she failed to raise money required for the treatment.
Xeroderma pigmentosa is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in which the ability to repair damage caused by ultraviolet light is deficient.
Symptoms include severe sunburn when exposed to sunlight, eyes that are painfully sensitive to the sun, rough surface skin cracks and skin cancers.
Mrs Jabangwe said her children were suffering as they are not able to play with their friends outdoors. Exposure to the sunlight will cause blistering. Rutendo is also developing some growths on her tongue.
“They have undergone several operations but there has not been any change. I was supposed to go to South Africa for chemotherapy but I failed to raise the funds. Now I am booked for July and am appealing to fellow Zimbabweans to assist in any way they could,” she said.
