PALESTINIAN Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri has hailed President Mnangagwa’s unwavering support in his recent address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava, the President said: “The international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye or be numb to the systematic injustices and suffering of the Palestinian people.

“We call upon the Security Council to fulfil its mandate by implementing robust measures that ensure the protection of civilians, the upholding of international law, and the facilitation of a just and lasting peace.”

For those key remarks at such a high profile platform, Amb Almassri said President Mnangagwa’s commitment to standing in solidarity with Palestine in their pursuit of justice, recognition, ending of Israeli occupation and genocide, was deeply appreciated.

“President Mnangagwa’s remarks highlighted the importance of international solidarity in addressing the long-standing issues faced by Palestinians,” he said.

“His emphasis on human rights and self-determination resonates profoundly with our aspirations for peace and dignity. The President’s speech not only brought attention to the Palestinian plight, but also reinforced the necessity for collective action among nations to uphold justice, equality and end the last occupation of the 21st century by Israel.”

“By voicing support for Palestine, he has contributed significantly to raising global awareness about our situation, which is crucial in fostering a more just world order. We are hopeful that this solidarity will inspire other nations to follow suit and advocate for Palestinian rights within international forums.”

Amb Almassri said the courage demonstrated by President Mnangagwa, to speak against the brutal killing of Palestinians by Israel, served as a beacon of hope especially at a time Israel has expanded its genocide to Lebanon, creating a regional war.

Israel has dismissed global calls for a ceasefire with Lebanon and continued bombing Lebanon yesterday, killing over 30 people, for a total of 700 deaths since Monday.

In central Gaza, Palestine, an Israeli air strike yesterday hit a tent sheltering displaced people within a hospital complex, killing one Palestinian man and injuring four others.

Since Israel started its war against Palestine last October, about 41 534 people have been killed and 96 092 wounded.
