FORMER Zimbabwe national sevens rugby player, Gordon Pangeti is delighted to have been appointed the Old Mutual Junior Sables coach for the Under-18 Academy Week.
Pangeti, coach of the Under-14, a position he had held since 2015 has been elevated up to the Under-18s. He takes over a position that was last year held by Zimbabwe-born former Scotland captain Scott Gray who has since left Saint John’s College. The 35-year-old Pangeti, who is in the process of completing his World Rugby Level Three coaching qualification said it has always been his desire to go up the mentorship ranks, with his ultimate goal being to coach the country’s senior national fifteens rugby team, the Sables in future.
“I am really excited about this appointment, I have done my part with the Under-14 so now I am ready for the Under-18 challenge. I get a lot of support from my family. Part of the development plan for me is to go up the levels, the same boys I am coaching now if I end up coaching the Sables I will be coaching them. Personally for me I want to coach the Sables in future,’’ Pangeti said.
A product of St George’s College and Prince Edward School, Pangeti, who played wing during his playing days, spent some time in South Africa where he played for Blue Bulls Under-21, Western Province Under-21, South Africa Under-21 under Jake White, Western Province Vodacom Cup, Pumas in the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup.
Pangeti played for the Zimbabwe Cheetahs between 2008 and 2010. He was in the United Kingdom from 2008 until 2012 when he returned home. In England, Pangeti started junior rugby coaching at Merchant Taylors School. He was also a player/coach at Ruislip Rugby Football Club.
When he returned home in 2012 he assumed the position of director of sport at Heritage School. He is now in charge of sport and marketing at the same private school in Harare.
Basil Dingiswayo remains the Under-18 assistant coach while Simbarashe Dangah has retained his position as team manager.
For the Under-14, former Sables captain Max Madziwa is the coach with ex-Zimbabwe international, Jafet Ndebele rewarded for the wonderful work he has been doing at Milton High School with an appointment as assistant coach for that age group where Tanetswa Dhinhidza has remained as the team manager.
Marvin Chirume and Constantine Dinha are the Under-16 head coach and assistant respectively with Shaun De Souza as the team manager. Nsikelelo Sibanda, who has done wonders with the Under-18 girls, has also been given a fresh mandate to continue in his post where Kim Marowa is his assistant.
