ONE of the most revered veterans of marathon running in the country, Kelvin Pangiso, has advised budding athletes to stay away from drugs and abuse of alcohol if they are to sustain their ambition.
He has been a marathon runner since 1998.
In his entire 25-year career, Pangiso has neither smoked nor tasted a beer.
He lives clean on lean meat, vegetables and takes in more water every day.
“I have been running for 25 years at club and national level.
“Before I say more about my life in athletics, I would want to advise the young. Stay away from drugs. Don’t take drugs. Drink natural water. Take more of it,” he said.
“Focus on yourself, your health and nothing more.
“Even if you come to me and ask for advice, I will be truthful and say maintain good health.”
Pangiso, who runs for the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) team, further expressed his wish to be a model runner who will inspire younger athletes to do well in athletics.
“There is no way one can make it if they do not take good care of themselves.
“To all the youngsters in the sport, make sure to follow how I lived. I do not smoke and neither do I drink.
“Follow that and you will be in good stead as an athlete,” said Pangiso.
The marathon veteran said he would want to be seconded as an ambassador who will help in pushing the Government agenda on ending the war against drug and substance overuse.
