SEASONED runner Kelvin Pangiso will be tested this morning when he is expected to take part at the Harare Athletics Board cross country season opener at Morris Depot. Last year, Pangiso reigned supreme in most of the 10km road races and is one of the front-runners to win the event today.
HAB are using the event to select their provincial team for the National Cross Country Championships set for the same venue on February 9.
Pangiso is likely to face competition from Jonathan Chinyoka in the 12km circuit, while Elijah Mabhunu could also be in the mix.
The senior women will run over 8km, with Faith and Constance Nyasango aiming to shrug off competition from the Chokore siblings Chiedza and Lizzie, while Rutendo Nyahora and Alicen Manake should not be ruled out.
Rutendo Kanda and Sta Munowenyu are also expected to feature in the junior women’s 4km run while the boys will compete over 8km.
HAB secretary Silas Muringani said athletes from other provinces have also been invited to the competition.
“We are holding our cross country selection at Morris Depot on Saturday and we are testing the venue ahead of the national championships on February 9.
“So other provinces can also come to get a feel of the course if they like,” said Muringani.
