From Langton Nyakwenda in GUTU
VETERAN runner Kelvin Pangiso won the 18th edition of the Simon Muzenda Gutu half-marathon when he stopped the clock in 1 hour 6 minute 18 seconds at Mupandawana Growth Point yesterday. Pangiso, from the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services Club, showed the field of 2 000 runners a clean pair of heels on his way to collect the US$2 500 for the winner while seasoned athlete Luwis Masunda from Lancashire Steel was second in 1:07:45. Ngoni Ncube from Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo also gave a good account of himself as he finished a credible third in 1:08:25. Masunda received US$1 500 while Ncube got US$1 000 for getting the bronze medal as local boy and former winner Jonathan Chinyoka came sixth. Defending champion Wirimai Juwawo, who was the pre-race favourite, found the going tough as he was outside the top 10.
