MASVINGO-based group Panhimbe Crew is banking on their extensive stage experience with legendary artistes to clinch the Chibuku Road to Fame title at the competition’s finale on Saturday.

The final showdown, aimed at spotlighting emerging talent, takes place tomorrow at Glamis Arena in Harare. Panhimbe Crew will face strong competition from Charlotte and The Vibrant Band (Manicaland), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), Boom Jazz (Mashonaland West), Kweseka (Matabeleland North), Music 2 Music (Bulawayo), Fugees (Matabeleland South), The Outlaws (Harare Metropolitan), The Cousins (Midlands), and Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central).

Kudzayi Ngwenya, a co-director of Panhimbe Crew, shared that their seven years in the industry give them a distinct edge.

“We’re an Afro-fusion band formed in 2017, and we began actively performing in 2018. Over the years, we’ve opened for legends like Thomas Mapfumo, Alick Macheso, and the late Oliver Mtukudzi when they performed in Masvingo. Our mission is to entertain fans in Masvingo, across Zimbabwe, and beyond,” said Ngwenya.

After winning the provincial Chibuku Road to Fame contest in Triangle, the group is optimistic about success in the national finals. “We’re thrilled about our provincial win and are promising our fans a victory in the upcoming finals. We’re also looking forward to launching more of our projects in the future,” Ngwenya added.

Panhimbe Crew’s line-up includes co-director Tafara Pande, Allen Mubika, Tafadzwa Josiya, Zola aka Mthabisi Ncube, Pride Chipuriro, and Shumirai Marange. – @mthabisi_mthire
