A 16-year-old paralysed boy from Chitungwiza, who made headlines early this year following his mother’s appeal for financial assistance after a condition that was caused by negligence by health professionals during theatre, yesterday received a wheelchair.
Courage Mambingadya (16) became paralysed after nurses from Parirenyatwa Hospital dropped him from a theatre bed when he was only 4 years old.
Officially handing over the wheelchair to the boy yesterday, Providence Human Capital’s finance director Mr Harod Bhake, said the story of Mambingadya was so touching and as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, they also thought of assisting him. “We, as Providence Human Capital, felt touched and thought we needed to do something after we saw the boy on television. We are donating this wheelchair so that things can be easy for the boy and his family,” he said.
The boy’s mother, Mrs Chipo Samoyo, expressed gratitude to Providence Human Capital and all the people who were helping her with donations.
“I am so thankful for this gesture. This wheelchair will go a long way in making our child’s life better.”
“For the past 12 years, I have struggled to nurse my son who now cannot talk, walk or even see properly. I never thought I would get as much help as I am getting now,” she said.
Mrs Samoyo said she would be grateful if people would continued supporting her and her family especially now that her husband was now epileptic and not working.
She said she could not also go to work due to her son’s condition.
