PARENTS RAISE ALARM OVER BERNARD MIZEKI BULLYING

Maria Chiguvari

PARENTS who have students at Bernard Mizeki School have petitioned authorities over the bullying of Form 1 pupils.

The bullying, the parents claim, is rampant in the dormitory which houses Form 1 students.

They have called for the abolition of the captain system which they blame for the bullying.

The parents have presented a petition to the school head, who has pleaded ignorance to the issue.

“This breed of students is torturing our children between 10pm and midnight.

“It seems they have led the children into thinking if they express discontent, it’s called snitching, hence they are suffering in silence.

“We understand there are only two functional geysers to cater for 105 students.

“Our children have to wake up as early as 3am to get a hot bath, which is unacceptable and unfair.

“The house captains are said to be switching off the geysers so that they alone have the luxury of bathing in hot water.

“The tuck shop lady does not give our children change and always has excuses for the lack of change and she is rude,” reads the petition.

One of the parents added:

Umwe mwana akarwara akadirwa two buckets dzecold water achinzi arikunyepera kurwara.

“First day ratavasiya ndopakatanga vakamhanyiswa ground.”

Another added:

Vana varikuitwa mombe kusungwa huro, kurariswa panze ozopinzwa muhostel na2am, kuitiswa sit up position for hours.

“They call our children ‘vana sisi’ which makes us worry about issues of sodomy and sexual abuse.

“They use vulgar and profane language to our children.

“They have ordained themselves as quasi army commanders who train Form Ones for the future.”
