Parents, teachers urged to work together

Speaking during the Senondo Primary School 19th annual speech and prize giving day in Matabeleland South provincial capital Gwanda on Friday, Mr Kodzai, who was also chosen as the Megafest  Business Awards Entrepreneur of the year, said teachers and parents needed to have a common goal and to work together to educate pupils so that they can grow up and take up their rightful places in society.

“Teaching is a very noble profession, which is the greatest task than any other in the world. It is a profession that has to be done with love and care,” said Mr Kodzai.
He said parents should not be afraid to sleep on empty stomachs for the sake of their children’s education.
“Though we should not regard them in this way, they are such a wise investment we can have,” said Mr Kodzai.

He said pupils should work hard to lay a foundation that would see them fulfill their dreams of becoming pilots, teachers, doctors and so on.
“You still have a long way to go in this life, and it is definitely longer than that which you have travelled so far. Through your hard work presently, you can be able to fulfill your dreams,” said Mr Kodzai.
He said for the pupils to achieve their goals and to grow into respectable citizens, they should respect and honour their teachers and parents.

“You should also respect yourself, respect others and co-operate with them so that you also earn the respect of others.
“Academically, success comes through study, and lots of it too,” said Mr Kodzai.

He said computers were vehicles to enhance learning and to equip pupils with skills in the increasing world of technology.
It is in this breadth that Mr Kodzai donated two laptops and food that was consumed by guests during the occasion and also pledged to assist in the building of a classroom block for Early Childhood Learning.

“These computers should assist the pupils in enhancing their education,” said Mr Kodzai.
Receiving the donation Senondo headmistress, Mrs Joyce Mdlongwa said the computers would go a long way in improving the education of the pupils and be at par with pupils in developed countries.
“As a school we want to provide quality education and this entails us having resources such as libraries and computers,” said Mrs Mdlongwa.

She said her school’s pass rate was impressive, as they had achieved an 80 percent pass rate up from 76 percent last year.
“Next year we intend to include computer education in our curriculum and the donation will go a long way. We are very grateful,” said Mrs Mdlongwa.

Outstanding pupils who scooped most prizes included Grade Seven pupils Tatenda Marashe, Nkosinesisa Mgwala and Pheron Gwenyugwenyu.
Mr Kodzai runs a chain of restaurants called Dickies, a nightclub, furniture and hardware outlets as well as cellphone accessories shops under the Fair and Square banner.
