PARENTS have been urged to mobilise resources to address water challenges faced by schools in Bulilima District. This follows reports that a number of boreholes at schools within the district were not working.Speaking recently during the commissioning of a science laboratory at Bambadzi Secondary School, District Education Officer for Bulilima Mr Danisa Nkomo said the water crisis was demotivating members of staff.

“Parents should work hard to improve working conditions for teachers and teachers should also reciprocate this gesture by working hard to fully prepare pupils’ lives after school.

“The pressing issue at the moment is the water crisis being experienced by a number of schools. As we speak this school does not have water as they are collecting water from Bambadzi Primary,” he said.

Mr Nkomo applauded the school for completing the science laboratory, which would go a long way in enhancing the teaching of Science within the district.

“I am quite happy that you have completed this structure which has taken you almost 15 years. I am sure that when you look back you are filled with pride.

“Without taking anything from other subjects, the teaching and learning of sciences must be given a lot of emphasis if we are to remain in the same boat with others in this global village,” said Mr Nkomo.

He urged the school and the community to complement the efforts by Government by mobilising resources towards equipping the laboratory.

“You have created a lot of challenges for yourselves and make sure you complete this laboratory in the real sense. Resources have to be put together before we carry our begging basket to other people.

“Work closely with the education office and local authority in order to develop this laboratory further. You should work towards furnishing and painting the laboratory,” said Mr Nkomo.

He also urged parents and teachers to work together to change children’s attitude towards school.
“Show your children the way to go and once they are old they will not depart from it.

“Parents and teachers should strive to create a harmonious working relationship which will create a conducive environment for learning and teaching. Polarised interactions are just but a recipe for disaster,” said Mr Nkomo.

The district has 18 secondary schools with only three schools offering sciences and these are Solusi High, Thekwane High and Usher High.
The education authorities have been tasked with a duty to introduce incentives which can attract science teachers into the district.

Also present at the commissioning was Bulilima West National House of Assembly Member, Cde Lungisani Nleya.
He donated $100 towards developing the science laboratory and pledged to donate solar panels as well.

The rural district council pledged to contribute towards equipping the laboratory.
The laboratory was constructed with the assistance of the Government through the rehabilitation grant.
