adminThe tournament is set to be the last major darts tournament in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts Association calendar before the awards ceremony in two weeks time.
According to George Dube, the Legends Singles tourney organising chairperson, the tournament will start with a round robin format tomorrow evening while those who will succeed tomorrow will then meet on Saturday for the knockouts which will determine the singles king or queen.
“We are inviting all clubs in our provincial association to send in players for this tournament which is meant to honour retired and departed darts players who made this sport what it is not only in Bulawayo but in the entirety of the country,” said Dube, himself one of the living legends in the game.
A lot of prizes have been sourced by a member of Parkview Sports Club who, however, asked to remain anonymous.
“Prizes, which will start from the quarter-finals, have been set aside for the first 180, highest close for men and ladies among others. We have thought of doing away with the prize for most 180s as we have had more than two people hitting the same number of 180s,” said Dube.
The Legends Singles Cup is a follow up to the inaugural Legends Doubles Cup which produced a shocker when a ladies doubles team of Susan Chizema and Nancy Mlambo shocked all the seasoned men in the league to come tops.
Some of the players that are expected to fight for honours include host club’s Jackson Ndimande, Lethukuthula Nkomo, Peter Dube, another game’s veteran, Moses Ndlovu, while league champions Ah-Sat will do away with the brotherhood as they try to outdo each other.
Players like Ndumiso Tshuma, Wayne Brandt, Derrick Pillay are likely to come face to face, so will the likes of Patrick Zimidzi, Steven Bingadadi from Railstars. League runners-up will have Brian Ndlovu, Nkululeko Ncube, Sydney Ncube, Carl Burzil, Jotham Ndiweni with Archers providing Bishop Moyo, Jonathan Sithole, and Earnest Sibanda among others.
Not to be outdone will be the ladies who will have Mlambo, Chizema, Sheron Sitsha and Dah Bafana.
