Unicorns happy with Southern Region basketball

“After the first half of the season I am happy the league has lived up to expectations and I believe all teams that have participated have learnt one or two things from this league.
“Yes, we might have had challenges here and there, some teams folding under financial challenges but that alone may not stop the positives.

“For example, at Unicorns we have learnt what it means to play away under such environments like in Bulawayo,” said Mabhena.
He said technically Unicorns had benefitted.
“We had been used to dominating the Midlands League but we have found new challenges and this is healthy for the exposure of players and it enhances the selection platforms for the national teams.

“It also becomes easy to market the game to a wider audience and I believe it is a matter of time before a sponsor comes abroad,” said Mabhena.
He also took time to thank the league’s administrators.

“On behalf of Unicorns, Steelers and MSU, we would like to thank BBA  for making the Southern League a reality.
“To the fans and match officials, your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you.

“Every good thing has its problems but for us to grow, we all need to see past our weaknesses and faults and see the good in the next person.Look forward to the second half,” said Mabhena.
The Southern Region Basketball League draws clubs from the Midlands and Bulawayo Provinces and was incorporated in the second half of the year.
