PARLIAMENT has created a specialised committee to lead the institution’s adoption of Artificial Intelligence for its benefit.
This was said by Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda in a meeting with the Speaker of the Australian Parliament, Mr Milton Dick, on Tuesday, according to a statement from Parliament.
“Speaker Mudenda shared some positive developments at the Parliament of Zimbabwe, including the establishment of the Committee of the Future, Parliamentary Constituency Offices and the Parliamentary Training Academy,” read the statement.
“The Committee of the Future has been tasked with cultivating strategies to positively harness Artificial Intelligence, consequently enhancing Parliamentary processes with a futuristic scope.
“With regard to the Parliamentary Training Academy, Speaker Mudenda explained that while this will be a certification centre, plans are underway to upgrade the Academy’s status to a degree certification level.”
Advocate Mudenda has on several occasions called for the adoption of AI, saying the country stood to derive immense benefits from its use.
Parliament also said Mr Dick briefed Advocate Mudenda on the Zimbabwe/Australia Parliamentary Friendship Association.
“Speaker Mudenda’s engagement with Honourable Milton Dick, Speaker of Australian Parliament, was a follow up on previous interactions that aimed to establish relations between the Parliament of Zimbabwe and the Australian House of Representatives.
“In this regard, the Australian Speaker shared the positive development of the launch of the Zimbabwe/Australia Parliamentary Friendship Association headed by a vibrant Member of Parliament who is keen on strengthening relations between the two legislature.
“The launch paves the way for exchanges between the two legislatures. Accordingly, it was agreed that exchange visits should be arranged in the near future at the Speaker’s level,” reads the statement.
This initiative forms part of parliamentary diplomacy, which involves engagement with foreign parliaments through networks to share experiences in legislative practices.
This group serves as a platform for fostering mutual understanding between the parliamentarians of Australia and Zimbabwe.
