The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement on Wednesday began a countrywide tour to assess progress on various dam construction projects being implemented by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority.
The committee began its tour at Semwa Dam in Mt Darwin District.
When complete, the dam is expected to provide irrigation water for 12 000 hectares, electricity generation, and establishment of fisheries, among other economic activities.
In his remarks, ZINWA director of engineering and hydrological services, Engineer Takudza Makwangudze said the dam is now 34 percent complete.
“So far we have spent US$120 million from the US$380 million or so that was budgeted for the project,” he said.
The dam is also expected to provide potable water for Rushinga and Mt Darwin.
