The allegations against Cde Zhanda arose after Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono wrote a letter in October that alleged that the legislator had requested bribes through his emissaries to stop the committee from investigating the affairs of the central bank.
The letter was also copied to Clerk of Parliament Mr Austin Zvoma.
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Lovemore Moyo, had informed the House that he had received a report from acting chairman of the committee, Mr Willas Madzimure (MDC-T) on the allegations and had ruled that there was a prima facie case against Cde Zhanda.
He said a privileges committee would be established to lead the investigations, but asked the House to vote on the matter as required by parliamentary regulations.

A motion was then moved by Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Eric Matinenga, asking the House whether the committee be established or not.
The House then voted against setting up the committee throwing away the allegations against Cde Zhanda.
Cde Zhanda had been asked to recuse himself from the committee until the matter was finalised. In his letter to Cde Zhanda, Dr Gono alleged that the investigations by the committee on the RBZ had ceased to be parliamentary business but had ulterior motives.
He said he had evidence that Cde Zhanda had sent emissaries to him asking for bribes for the committee to cease further probes into RBZ activities.
