adminSecretaries general of former liberation movements in southern Africa are meeting in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania to map the way forward in the development of the region in the face of neo-colonialist forces who continue to threaten the peace and independence of the region.The liberation movements forum bring together Zanu-PF, ANC of South Africa, Frelimo of Mozambique, MPLA of Angola , Chama Cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania and SWAPO of Namibia.
The Zanu-PF delegation is being led by Cde Didymus Mutasa. The forum, which last met at summit level in March in Pretoria, South Africa, took a decision to establish a party school at Iringa in Tanzania, which played host to many liberation movements during the decolonisation era.
Reports coming from the meeting which is under way in the east African country say plans were at an advanced stage to begin the construction of the party school.
The secretaries general on Tuesday toured the site of the proposed school and expressed readiness to begin construction.
Iringa was chosen as the site for the school as it was formerly a training camp for liberation war cadres.
For Zimbabwe, the meeting in Tanzania is significant in that it was at the same forum that other liberation movements in the region implored Zimbabweans to work hard to overcome opposition forces and their neo-colonial agenda.
Zanu-PF is taking the opportunity to report on the resounding victory it scored in the harmonised elections. Different wings of the liberation movements, including the women’s leagues, youth leagues and war veterans met on the sidelines of the meeting of the secretaries-general.
The forum was launched a few years ago to ensure co-operation of liberation parties in the face of the resurgence of neo-colonial forces. – ZBC.
