the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe 2010 Director of the Year.
Mrs Caroline Chirima, the managing director of Baztech Incorporated, was the winner of the small and medium enterprises category.
Mr Pasi was recognised for effectively contributing to the development of his organisational strategy.
He has contributed to strong organisational control and oversight, ensuring that the organisation remained focused to surpass its 2010 target by 17 percent.
He is the founding commissioner-general of Zimra in May 2001.
Institute of Directors Zimbabwe chairman, Mr Johannes Mudzengerere, said the awards were a way of recognising and celebrating the input by individuals to the effectiveness, direction, strategy and good corporate governance of their boards.
He said directors and organisational leaders should foster a business culture that is underpinned by sound ethical values.
“It is critical for one to understand that it’s good business to be ethical,” he said.
“Everyone who is in management has to have an appreciation of corporate governance and even those who are not into management must have an appreciation of what corporate governance is all about.
“We provide training for SMEs and large organisations so that they can be profitable, relevant and contribute to the growth of the economy.”
Institute of Directors South Africa chief executive, Mrs Ansie Ramalho, the guest speaker, urged organisations to adopt good corporate governance principles.
“Corporate governance should enhance the stability of a business,” she said.
“We want international communities to invest in Africa and Africa to do business in international communities.”
As part of his prize, Mr Pasi will get a fully-paid trip to attend a Director of the Year Convention in London in May this year.
The Director of the Year awards ceremony, running under the theme “Consolidating for take-off” was introduced in 2005 to celebrate and recognise achievements by individuals whose contribution to boards of directors in Zimbabwe had excelled.
Past winners include Dairibord managing director Mr Anthony Mandiwanza, Econet chief executive Mr Douglas Mboweni, Kingdom Financial Holdings founder Mr Nigel Chanakira and African Sun chief executive Mr Shingi Munyeza.
