Passenger dies in road accident

One person died and four were injured when the driver of a speeding Honda Fit lost control and veered off the Harare-Mutare highway early Sunday morning near Marondera.

Mashonaland East deputy provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere said the four injured included the driver while the dead person was a passenger.

It is reported that the accident occurred around 4am on Sunday at the 75km peg when Nhlalo Sibanda, who was seated in the front passenger seat, held the steering wheel while the vehicle was in motion, resulting in the driver losing control of the car.

It then veered off the road, hitting the culvert. It overturned several times before landing on its right side facing North. The injured were referred to Marondera Provincial Hospital where they are all admitted. The body of the deceased was taken to Marondera Provincial Hospital Mortuary where it is awaiting post mortem.
