Passionate musician appeals for support

KWEKWE-based upcoming gospel musician, Gainmore Hamandawana, has appealed for sponsorship to further her music career after more than a decade of challenges.

The 28-year-old identified her talent when she was eight.

However, fate dealt her a huge blow when both her parents passed away and she fell sick with a condition that left her with a disability.

“I was always passionate about singing from a tender age when I was in Grade Two but then I met a lot of challenges in life that made it difficult for me to keep concentrating on my music career.

“I lost both parents at a very young age and I relocated to the rural areas to stay with my grandmother.

“She also passed on and I was taken by my uncle who lives in Harare.

“I fell sick and that illness left me having difficulties with my legs, until now,” said Hamandawana.

Despite all the challenges, Hamandawana has not lost hope in becoming a gospel musician of repute.

With the support of well-wishers, she has managed to record and release a single track titled, Tirivashanyi Panyika.

The song is a portrayal of Hamandawana’s life experience.

“The track Tirivashanyi Panyika is my first track that I have managed to record and release, in this song I was trying to portray my life experience, as a child of God.

“Life has taught me that I am a visitor in this world, just like my parents who left the world, my sisters and I will leave this world one day,” she said.

She added she wants to scale the heights touched by the likes of Fungisayi Zvakavapano and Mai Charamba.

“As a young girl, I always admired Fungisai hoping to become like her one day. I would sing her songs and I also admired Mai Charamba as one of my favourite gospel musicians,” she said.
