FOUR-TIME league winning former Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa’s four championships has seen him get world acclaim.
The rankings, done by the Institute of Football Coaches Statistics dated August 28, just three months before Pasuwa won his fourth consecutive league title and put on their website this week – somehow put to rest the social media debate sparked by the “Pasuwa 16 trophies in 3 years” widely circulated in the week.
According to the rankings, Pasuwa will surely enter the New Year basking in glory as the only Zimbabwean coach in the Top 1,000.
Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti leads the standings.
Pasuwa is on position 849 with 475 points with his former teammate at DeMbare Kaitano Tembo ranked 1,078th with 164 points.
Wilfred Mugeyi is ranked 1,313th with 27 points.
Some of the notable coaches from the continent include Wit Bidvest coach Gavin Hunt who is on 367 with Egyptian born Emad Soliman top in Africa at 114 with 3,870 points.
The Bidvest Wits coach has been the driving force behind Wits’ third spot in the Absa Premiership table standings. He is above other PSL coaches like former Bafana Bafana and current SuperSport United’s Gordon Igesund and Kinnah Phiri of Free State Stars.
Igesund is ranked at 801, with Phiri, the former Manzini Wanderers player and now in the PSL as well as Malawi senior national team coach at 901.
It is the intimidating names that occupy the top 10 that should give local coaches the confidence.
Ancelotti with 20,082 points leads the list distantly followed by former Barcelona now Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola (14,813), Diego Simeone (14,705), Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho (11,194), Jorge Jesus (11,77), Blanc (10,589), Unai Emery (10,462), under fire Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger (9,990), Luis Enrique (9,500) and Klopp (9,373).
The ranking website www.coachesworldranking.com which does both national and club level, that were last released in August 28 this year, also ranked former Warriors coach Norman Mapeza 180th among national team coaches with 1,086 points.
This will surely be a confidence boost for the coach who is set to guide FC Platinum in the Caf Confederations Cup early this year.
Mapeza completed his first season since returning from a two-year Asiagate related ban and being rated highly should surely fly as a slap in the face of Zimbabwe football authorities.
As expected, Joachim Loew, the World Cup winning Germany coach, leads the pack with 20,214 followed by Vicente Del Bosque of Spain (16,901).
Oscar Tabarez is third (15,741) with Jurgen Klinsmann (13,949), Prandeli (12,969), Louis Van Gaal (12,705), Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento (12,350), Jose Pekerman (11,993), Jose Louis Pinto Afanador (11,690) and J dela Torre (11,444) completing the top 10.
Notably highly rated former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is 12th with 11,368 points with Steven Keshi the top African in 14th on 10,547 points. Ghana’s coach James Kwesi Appiah is 34th with 6,382 points.
Former Zambia national coach Renard is 37th with 5,915 with former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund 58th with 3,885 points.
The national coaches ranking included 411 coaches who have coached either one or two of Fifa’s 209 national teams and they are monitored on a monthly basis.
However, the authenticity of such ratings cannot easily be verified.
