A man died along Kezi road when a car he was travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree. The vehicle was driven by renowned historian Pathisa Nyathi

Tha Lunga, an employee at Amagugu International Heritage Centre owned by Nyathi, died later at Nathisa Clinic while the cultural fundi cheated death by a whisker in the accident that occurred on Thursday at around 1PM.

Nyathi, who was travelling from Amagugu International Heritage Centre, said he lost control of the motor vehicle after it skidded on a muddy road and hit a mopani tree.

“We were going to a plot near Kezi. There was a car which was coming from the opposite direction. In a bid to avoid it, I moved off the tarred road because the road is narrow. When I tried to return to the tarred road, I lost control of the car ,” said Nyathi.

He said help came four hours later as they got reports from Nathisa Clinic that the ambulance had attended to another accident.

“We had to wait from 1PM till 5PM for an ambulance from Bulawayo which rushed us to Nathisa Clinic in Kezi where Lunga eventually died from excessive bleeding. The clinic had limited resources otherwise Lunga could have been saved,” said Nyathi.

Nyathi was later transferred to Mater Dei Hospital where he is receiving treatment. He said the doctor who attended to him referred him to Harare Avenues Clinic where he would get further treatment from specialists.

Lunga was laid to rest at his rural home in Nathisa on Saturday.

Nyathi said two lives have been claimed at the same spot and there were flowers along the road in memory of those who died due to road accidents.
