RUWA farmers have commended police for patrolling farms during the night, which led to the recovery of 52 stolen chickens and feed recently.

The patrol team intercepted a vehicle, which had three suspects Agrippa Nelson, 23, a Kenias Muzanenhamo, 26, and Simbarashe Mavhangira, 24, on board, and carried out a search.

The team recovered 52 broilers and 50 kg feed, which were in the vehicle.

Patrolling officers interrogated the three suspects who admitted to having stolen the chickens at Hukuru Chicks in Ruwa leading to their arrest.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector, Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest urging people to report any suspicious activities within their area.

“Police arrested three suspects in connection with stock theft in Ruwa,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The patrol team intercepted a vehicle with the suspects.

“They proceeded to Plot 20 Mandalay Park where they met the complainant, who positively identified the chickens.

“Checks were made at the fowl run and it was discovered that 52 mother chickens and a bag of feed were missing.

“It was established that one of the accused was employed by Hukuru Chicks. He gave the other suspects the loot over a precast wall.

“Total value stolen is US$753 and all was recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.

In another case, Insp Chakanza confirmed the arrest of three other suspects Nyasha Mukundu, 22, Takudzwa Murombedzi, 21, and Manuel Chibanda, 31, who were armed with machetes coming from Mbare Pioneer Cemetery and robbed Lawrence Shava of his money and cellphone.

One of the accused escaped when Lawrence informed patrolling police officers, who responded quickly and arrested the three.

Shava hailed the police.

“I want to thank patrolling police officers, who helped me in recovering my phone and cash.

“Besides, police officers have been visible in several corners in and outside the CBD. I wish this can continue as it will reduce criminal cases in Harare.”
