Chinhoyi residents have been urged to pay their bills on time to enable the municipality, which is currently owed $36,7 million, to meet service delivery. In an interview, Chinhoyi Municipality spokesperson Mr Tichaona Mlauzi urged residents to pay their bills so that they can fund the 2018 budget.

“As council we are committed to making sure that residents get the best service, but we urge residents to play their part by making sure that they pay their bills so that we can address issues raised during 2018 budget consultations,” Mr Mlauzi said . He said council had come up with a promotion where residents have to pay for their current bills while they make a payment plan to clear their outstanding bills.

“We have come up with a plan where we urge residents to pay their current bills and make a payment plan for the outstanding bills they owe us.” Mr Mlauzi said council is owed $36,7 million by residents of which $18 million is owed by companies. He said council is not going to write off debts being owed by residents. Mr Mlauzi said Chinhoyi Municipality was aiming for city status by December 2018.

“We are aiming to have city status by December 2018 and this can happen with the contribution by residents in making sure they pay their bills, so that we meet the requirements. So far, council has made notable achievements in terms of residents’ plight for improved service delivery. We recently bought three refuse compactors, which has improved our refuse collection. We are, therefore, urging property owners to make sure that they paint their buildings and keep their environments clean,” said Mr Mlauzi.
