Global payment provider PayPal has started the expansion of its payment services to 10 new European and African markets.
The addition of Belarus, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Nigeria, Paraguay, and Zimbabwe, brings the total number of markets served by PayPal to 203.
As services go live, the customers will be able to register for a PayPal account and start making payments on millions of websites worldwide without the worry of entering their credit or debit card details online.
PayPal Europe, Middle East and Africa senior vice president Mr Rupert Keeley said many people are still wary of entering their credit or debit card details on the website of an unknown seller, operating in a distant country despite technology breaking down barriers to global commerce.
“Paying with PayPal provides peace of mind, because people never have to expose their financial information during the transaction,” Mr Keeley added.
“We plan to work with our customers to help them take advantage of the opportunity to offer a safer and easier way to pay in markets they may not have explored before.”
The go live also provides businesses of all sizes with an opportunity to start accepting PayPal payments from buyers in the 10 new countries.
PayPal services are expected to be rolled out across the 10 new markets in the coming days.
PayPal is initially offering only “send money” services for consumers to pay for goods and services at PayPal-enabled merchant sites, free of cost to consumers as they are covered by fees it charges merchants. – Reuters.
