adminBRAZIL legend Pele will spend Christmas in hospital after his colon cancer worsened.
The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, where the 82-year-old is being treated, released an update on his health today (December 21).
Their statement read: “Admitted since November 29 for a reassessment of chemotherapy therapy for colon tumor and treatment of a respiratory infection, Edson Arantes do Nascimento presents progression of the oncological disease and requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions.
“The patient remains hospitalized in a common room, under the necessary care of the medical team.”
His daughter Kely Nascimento, 55, encouraged fans to pray for him in an Instagram post. She wrote: “Your love for him, your stories and your prayers are a HUGE comfort because we know we are not alone.
“Let’s turn this room into a Sambadrome (just kidding), let’s even make caipirinhas (not kidding!!).” Pele was readmitted to hospital last month to receive treatment for a respiratory infection that was aggravated by Covid-19. Reports emerged that he’d been moved to palliative end-of-life care after his body stopped responding to chemotherapy. Kely and her sister Flavia quickly moved to rubbish those claims, though, declaring that he “isn’t ready to say goodbye”.
But it seems his condition has now deteriorated and he won’t be leaving hospital for the foreseeable future. He’s remained in good spirits and followed the Qatar World Cup. – Daily Star
