People voted into power urged to fulfil promises

People voted into power should pay back the electorate by fulfilling their campaign promises, ZANU-PF secretary for Economic Affairs Dr Obert Mpofu said yesterday. Addressing scores of Zanu-PF supporters at a rally held in Nguboyenja, Cde Mpofu urged Zanu –PF candidates to desist from taking advantage of people who would have voted them into power.

“Politicians should never forget people who vote them into power when they win the elections. Everyone is going around campaigning for votes and many will forget about the people whom they are supposed to serve once they get those votes.

“People are very important and a good politician will make sure that he or she fulfils all the promises made during the campaigns,” said Dr Mpofu.
He said Zanu-PF leaders should woo back the peoplewho left the party. “Losing in 2000 taught me a lesson I will never forget and now that I have changed as a leader no one will ever be able to beat me in Umguza constituency.

“People do not want empty promises and it is our duty to win back those who left because of unfulfilled promises,” he said.
Dr Mpofu slammed Zanu-PF leaders who were failing to distribute party regalia and donations fairly to the people, saying such greed cost the party. “We should stand united as a party for us to win the harmonised elections.

Addressing the same rally, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, who is the candidate for Makokoba constituency, urged people to work together to revive Bulawayo’s industries. “We have a crisis in Bulawayo which includes the closure of our industries, shortages of water and health facilities.

All these problems haunt us day and night especially women and the youths who are the most affected,” he said.
Retired Col Dube said people should therefore vote for Zanu-PF, the only party which has a programme to address the many challenges facing the city.

He said every resident of Bulawayo has a role to play in rebuilding the city which has been destroyed by irresponsible leaders.
“Let us take pride in being people from Bulawayo and revive our industries so that we create jobs for the youths. The time has come for us to shine as Bulawayo and it will begin by all of us voting for the right candidates,” said Cde Tshinga amid cheers from the crowd.

The rally was attended by Zanu-PF politburo members that included Cde Eunice Sandi Moyo and Cde Absalom Sikhosana.
