World class disc jockey and radio presenter Peter Johns is set to headline Star FM’s “All Star Party” scheduled for the Rajiv Gandhi Hall at the Exhibition Park next Friday to mark the radio station’s second anniversary.Star FM, Zimbabwe’s leading first commercial radio launched on June 25, 2012 and has within the shortest period changed the game for the better as it scored yet another first as a digital station.
“We are excited and happy to announce that veteran and top DJ Peter Johns, who is based in the UK will headline the ‘All Star Party’. When we contacted him he didn’t hesitate and he’s coming for that and his personal business.
“We are hoping to have him on air and do a shift since he will be around before he flies off to Johannesburg, South Africa for a series of gigs. So yah, we want to celebrate with one of Zimbabwe’s greatest and sought-after DJs,” Comfort Mbofana, Star FM’s programmes manager said.
Affectionately known for his flawless presentation on drive time shows on the then Radio 3, now Power FM, Peter Johns or PJ had the entire nation locked onto his programmes that were characterised by high-powered sound and distinct jingles.
Love or hate him, PJ rocked the young and old listeners with different programmes matching international standards. Already his promos on Star FM have sent chills down the corridors of entertainment scene as he is set to steer things up for others to follow.
Mbofana, who is popularly known as Mbofs on radio also said there were other festivities to mark the second anniversary.
“We are going to host a breakfast for our advertisers just to thank them for being with us as a station and ensure that we continue doing business together,” Mbofs said.
Other acts to look forward to include appearances by musicians in the likes of Sniper Storm, Stunner as well as Langa from Bulawayo.
“We are still talking to Alexio because he wants to perform with a live band. But others have already confirmed. The thing is that the show will be organised along the lines of ‘Big Chill’ but this time people are going to pay $5 to enter because we are trying to do away with hooliganism and make sure that the right people come to the show,” Mbofs said.
On the ones-and-twos, there will be a hot line up of DJs from the spin master Otis “The Flow” Fraser, Naida and Chucknosis, who will be throwing down some heavy hitters throughout the night just the way music fans like it.
Presenters at the gig will be Star FM DJs Nicki, KVG, Mox aka Your Girlfriend’s Favourite DJ, Napster aka The Radio Master, Grace The Soul Sister, Iyati and Tariro among others.
It appears the gig has all the ingredients of a thriller considering the stellar line-up of presenters.
Make a date as Star FM is the game for sure!
