Utakataka Express leadership believes that Peter Moyo’s evolution transcends his music career and encompasses personal growth and family dynamics.

After guiding his career for 11 years, following the death of his father Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo on October 15, 2011, Peter’s journey has been marked by self-discovery, sacrifice and hard work, according to his management team.

In an interview with the Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Peter’s manager Kudakwashe Zhuwawo expressed optimism about the progress within their camp.

“I can confidently say we are on the right track and Peter Moyo’s brand has gained significant attention,” he stated. “I started managing him five years ago and I have known him since his early days. Now we can confidently say he has matured.”

Zhuwawo emphasised Peter’s work ethic and willingness to embrace new challenges.

“He knows what he wants in terms of developing his path,” he added.

Managing a 16-member band, Zhuwawo noted the difficulties of losing key musicians but praised Peter’s resilience.

“We have lost some seasoned musicians who previously worked with the late Tongai Moyo and finding replacements has not been easy,” he explained.

“One of the musicians we lost is Spencer Khumulani along with Baba Gari (Evidence Tarabuku). Although we recorded the last album with them we’ve brought in Blessing Katama, formerly with Lucky Kumene, and we are still searching for a replacement for Spencer.”

Despite these challenges, Zhuwawo expressed satisfaction with the changes and the positive reception from   fans.

He highlighted the support Peter receives from his family including his siblings Tanaka and Tongai Junior who are welcomed into the fold.

Recently Obert and Tanaka made a memorable appearance at Peter’s album launch in Harare joining him on stage. Following the launch, Peter had a photoshoot with his brothers showcasing unity and resonating with fans of the late Tongai Moyo.

Zhuwawo dispelled rumours of discord among the siblings stating, “Peter Moyo has matured which is evident in his role both in his career and within the family. His younger brothers respect him as the elder and attend his shows regularly.

“They are now mature and we expect them to make wise decisions.”

Despite receiving rave reviews for his seventh album “Muchinda Muhombe” Peter remains grounded. Zhuwawo remarked, “I will always rate this album as one of Peter Moyo’s best ever compositions. The feedback we are getting online is overwhelming and it’s uplifting to see people singing along.”

To promote the album, they have planned a series of regional shows with confirmed dates in South Africa and Botswana starting in October. Additionally, Zhuwawo revealed plans for Dhewa commemorations in Kwekwe next month.

“We always celebrate Tongai Moyo’s legacy and this time we aim to honour him in the best way possible with a show in Kwekwe. Kwekwe remains our home and Dhewa’s impact will always be felt by his fans.”

Zhuwawo also appealed for partnerships to enhance this year’s commemorations.

“It would be a plus to have sponsors to make our day memorable. Since he died on  October 15, 2011 we want to celebrate Dhewa’s legacy and make it unforgettable.”

With Peter Moyo and his siblings Tanaka and Tongai Junior in the spotlight to maintain the family legacy, the Utakataka Express management team has significant work ahead. Achieving this will depend on Peter’s leadership as he steers the ship forward.
