PETERHOUSE were crowned the Super8 Rugby Schools champions after defeating Prince Edward 27-17 win on Thursday.
Hosts Peterhouse started this encounter on a high note when they scored their first try in the fifth minute before stretching their lead to 9-0.
The Tigers hit back with a beautiful try but they trailed 5-14 at the break as it wasn’t converted.  The second half saw both teams played a competitive game but the hosts held on to their advantage and were deserved winners at the end. Peterhouse lock, Anotidaishe Munyonga, said this was a very good season where they did well and got due reward for the hard work they put in.

“We are very happy that we topped the log, it was not easy, but we put in practice all what our coach taught us,” said Munyonga.
“We did a lot of teamwork in our matches, and that was excellent, our parents and our school are proud of us, a big thank you to my mum and dad Trish and Nick Munyonga for their support throughout the season, that was so encouraging.”

Prince Edward coach Sebastian Garikai, who is also the school’s sports director, said he was happy that the bulk of his players would still be around come next year.

“I hope I will retain my players, I have four leaving but the remaining 18 I want to see them next year. They played exceptionally well, it was a very competitive and exciting fixture which everyone enjoyed. We beat Peterhouse in the Under-16s but and they beat us in the first team.”

Meanwhile, the final action of Super8 rugby is on today when St George’s College take on Falcon College at St George’s in their last fixture. Peterhouse, though, have already won the championship.

St George’s College thumbed St John’s College 41-11 on Wednesday at Weaver ground and this means the Saints were unbeaten, against their opponents, this season.

The Saints are in second place on the table, behind Peterhouse, with 48 points.
