Philanthropist and Businesswoman Dr Smelly Dube hosts party for elderly and people with disabilities

Philanthropist and businesswoman Dr Smelly Dube, yesterday hosted a party for the elderly and people with disabilities drawn from Gweru and Shurugwi where she also distributed food hampers.

Dr Dube, who owns River Valley Properties, handed food hampers at the party to celebrate the country’s 44 years of independence.

She said she decided to celebrate the day that marked the end of racial segregation after a protracted war of liberation that claimed many lives.

“We are here following the principles of this country, the principles set by our leaders. I want to say happy independence day to you and the country. As your fry (cook some of the food in the hampers) I want you to remembers all the gallant sons and daughter who sacrificed everything for the country’s independence,” said Dr Dube.

The unassuming and kindly woman who is always working towards improving the lives of fellow human beings also paid tribute to villagers, churches and traditional leaders who also provided services such as cooking food for the freedom fighters.
