Philanthropist eases bedding challenges at Gwanda Hospital

South Africa-based businessman and owner of Mzansi Luxiliner Mr Cabangani Mangena, has donated blankets, sheets, pillows, and pillowcases to Gwanda Provincial Hospital to help alleviate shortages of bedding materials at the health institution.

The consignment included 250 blankets and 500 bedsheets.

Last year, Mr Mangena donated 250 blankets to the hospital to ensure all beds were covered.

The hospital serves as a major referral centre for several districts in the province.

Speaking after the donation, Ms Bridget Dube, who represented Mr Mangena, said they were responding to an appeal from the hospital authorities.

“When this initiative started last year, Mapinda Investment, also known as Mzansi Luxiliner, donated 250 blankets. However, there was concern that these were not enough, and the hospital also required sheets and pillows,” she said.

“Today, we are handing over 250 blankets, 250 pillows, 250 pillowcases, and 500 sheets. The company’s director, Mr Cabangani Mangena, saw it fit to continue partnering with the hospital to address the remaining shortfall.

“We hope that this intervention will make a significant difference, but it is not the end.

“Mr Mangena, who hails from Gwanda, has assured us that the company will continue identifying gaps in the town and working towards addressing them.”

Representing the hospital, Matron Chipo Mungo said the donation would significantly improve service delivery at the hospital.

Gwanda Mayor, Alderman Thulani Moyo, highlighted the need for further improvements at the hospital to ensure patients receive quality healthcare services.

He commended Mr Mangena for his generosity, which he said would enhance conditions at the hospital.

Ald Moyo noted that improved healthcare services were crucial to achieving Vision 2030 and emphasised that this goal could be realised through collaborative efforts. He also said the donation would contribute towards modernising the hospital.

“We would like to thank Mr Mangena for identifying a critical need in our hospital and stepping in to assist. Many patients come from rural areas and are admitted without any bedding,” he said.

“Last year, he donated 250 blankets, and today he has brought another 250, bringing the hospital’s total to 500 blankets.

“The hospital has 250 beds, meaning each bed will now have two blankets. Mr Mangena has also donated 500 sheets, ensuring that each bed will now have two sheets as well.”

Ald Moyo added that there was also a need to improve hospital infrastructure, equipment, and machinery. He called on various stakeholders in the district to assist in developing the institution.

Gwanda Residents Association chairperson, Mr Collet Moyo, said it was encouraging to see partners such as Mapinda Investment playing a role in the town’s development.–@DubeMatutu
