Philanthropist urges investment in education

A United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean philanthropist Yvonne Gambe has made a passionate plea to the diaspora community to step up and make a difference to the country’s education system.

Gambe was launching a crowd funding campaign through her Yvonne Yvette Foundation to support children at Hope Primary School in Khami District. She has already made a difference in the lives of 20 children through her foundation, and she is determined to do more for the the less privileged.

In an interview, the UK based philanthropist challenged Zimbabweans living in the diaspora to make a bigger difference in the lives of children in need.

“To date, we have assisted roughly six children with their school fees, and we have purchased school uniforms that we will present to 20 children when the schools reopen. I would like to encourage my friends and family to try and visit so that they can have a good picture of what is really going on the ground. Some of our families are struggling and they need our help,” she said.

Gambe was hoping to adopt a minimum of 10 children when schools reopen and that they were looking forward to have a proper budget.

“We are still new and looking for organisations to work with because all the funds we work with are donations we get as and when a crisis arises. Hopefully we will have resources available this year that will allow us to have a proper budget set aside.”

She stressed that even a small donation could make a big difference in the lives of these children, and urged the diaspora to consider supporting this worthy cause.

“ I have learnt a lot from my past experience in my personal life about helping people around me. We all need a helping hand in life. One thing i know is if you want God to bless you, you have to be a blessing to others!”
