adminPhiri is in his last session of a four-year term as PSL president and will have to stand for elections, if he wants to continue in that post, early next year.
Dube has already made it clear that he intends to remain Zifa president, when his term expires in March next year, and is confident he will beat the competition as and when it emerges to challenge him.
The Harare business executive believes he has unfinished business, as the leader of the game in the country, and wants another term in office.
Dube hailed the success that Phiri has enjoyed, since taking over as PSL boss, and acknowledged it during the Zifa annual meeting in Harare on Saturday.
The Zifa boss asked the councillors to note the impact that Phiri has made at the PSL and to give him a round of applause for turning the top-flight league around in the three years that he has been in power.
“The president noted that the PSL has done very well under Twine Phiri and acknowledged his work before the councillors, which was very refreshing,” a councillor who attended the meeting told The Herald.
“He said it was good to see that the PSL, which is our main league, was in good hands and he asked the councillors to acknowledge the good work that Twine has done and to use it as a model of a good football administrator.
It was a touching moment and it showed a lot of councillors that Dube has a heart for the success of the league, contrary to the stuff that is being said by his critics that he is only interested in football politics.
“The councillors noted what Twine has done because there is evidence that he has worked well and has changed the PSL and he is a good example, in terms of football leadership right now, which we should follow.
“The president believes the PSL is under a good leadership and if the same kind of leaders can be found for the regions.”
