TM Pick n Pay has donated 500 blankets to Parirenyatwa Hospital to help patients cope with the cold winter conditions.

TM Pick n Pay Chief Finance Officer, Gamuchirai Nyamuzinga, said the donation is part of the company’s commitment to supporting communities.

“Clinical care needs comfort. You can have the best doctors and the best medicine, but if a patient is freezing in a ward during a July cold snap, their recovery is compromised,” Nyamuzinga said.

“These 500 blankets are about providing immediate physical warmth but, more importantly, they are about dignity.

“When a patient walks into Parirenyatwa Hospital, they should feel cared for by the community outside these walls.”

Nyamuzinga said the company’s customers play a role in making the initiative possible, describing it as an act of community solidarity.

“Our customers support us daily and this is our direct way of wrapping our arms around the most vulnerable, when the weather gets harsh.

“A massive thank you to the staff at Parirenyatwa,” he said.

He also commended the hospital team for continuing to deliver services “under intense pressure.”

He said the company hopes the blankets will make their work easier and patients more comfortable.

“We hope these blankets make your jobs just a little bit easier and your patients a lot more comfortable.

“Our promise is that TM Pick n Pay will keep showing up.”

Parirenyatwa Hospital Clinical Director, Dr Tonderai Innocent Mangwiro, said gestures like these show that quality healthcare depends not only on medical expertise but also on compassion and support from partners.

“While a blanket may seem like a simple item, to a patient it provides warmth, comfort, dignity and reassurance during what can often be a difficult time,” Dr Mangwiro said.

He said the hospital values its relationship with the supermarket chain, adding that ongoing support strengthens public health services.

“As long-time friends to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, your continued support speaks volumes about the relationship we have built over the years,” he said.

Dr Mangwiro expressed hope that the partnership would continue growing.

TM Pick n Pay donated 750 blankets to Parirenyatwa Hospital in 2024.

The retail giant has donated 15,000 blankets to the same hospital to date.

It has also delivered a total of 1,300 blankets, covering six hospitals and five care homes.
