A snap survey that was carried out last week by Saturday Leisure showed that Moyo’s funeral DVD was on demand.
The survey also revealed that pirates had increased the price of the copy from the usual $1 to $2.
Alfred Ndlovu, a pirate in Bulawayo, said he was selling more than 10 copies of the DVD per day.
“This festive season we have made a lot of money out of Dhewa’s funeral DVD.
“These days I am selling at least 10 copies of the DVD which is on high demand all over town,” he said.
Ndlovu said vendors around town were ordering more than 20 copies per day for reselling.
“Dhewa’s funeral DVD is on demand and it seems we are the only people with the copy,” he said.
Ndlovu said the video was brought by one of their family members who attended Dhewa’s funeral and shot a video of all the proceedings.
“As you know everything that happens to guys like Tongai and Macheso sells so one of our members shot this video and we are selling it,” he said.
Ndlovu said most of Dhewa’s fans did not manage to attend the burial and that is the reason they were buying the DVD.
“We have been getting calls from as far as Hwange and Beitbridge from different people placing orders for the DVD,” he said.
New director of Utakataka Express and son to Dhewa, Peter Moyo, said he has been receiving calls from different people who were asking him whether the family was aware that the DVD of his father’s funeral was on sale.
“With pirates everything is possible because I have been getting calls from different people asking me whether we were aware that this DVD was on sale,” he said.
