adminCAIRO. – Former Al Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper-turned-journalist Ahmed Schubert has laid blame at Pitso Mosimane’s feet for the club’s recent decline.
After guiding Al Ahly to consecutive CAF Champions League and Super Cup titles, as well as winning the Egyptian Cup, Mosimane stepped down from his role as the club’s head coach in June.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss was replaced by Portuguese tactician Ricardo Soares, who in turn was sacked by the club following the conclusion of a disappointing domestic season.
Ex-Switzerland international Marcel Koller has since assumed the mantle at the Egyptian giants where he faces the task of guiding the club back to the league and Champions League titles next season.
Koller’s first order of business has been to change the training regime at Ahly which Schubert claims was the cause of the team’s decline during Mosimane’s time in charge.
“After cancelling Al Ahly’s external camp present time, Koller decided to implement the full-day system in the team’s training, starting next Saturday,” he said.
“There is a state of great satisfaction among the Al-Ahly club’s stars at his decision to focus on increasing the physical and technical load through the application of the full day regime.
“There is an agreement among elements at the club that the former coach, Pitso Mosimane, was the cause of the physical decline in performance and technical condition in the last period due to the long periods of rest obtained by the red team
“What Pitso Mosimane did by giving the players long breaks, also affected the results of the red team during the presence of the Portuguese Ricardo Soares, as he stumbled in finding solutions to the players’ stress, and the players’ lack of strong physical readiness.” – KickOff.com
