FORMER Zimbabwe international cricketer, who was now playing for Ireland, Peter Moor has retired from professional cricket at the age of 34.

Moor, who was once Zimbabwe’s vice-captain, is one of the 17 cricketers to have played Test cricket for two different countries.

The right handed wicketkeeper-batter played 15 Tests, eight for Zimbabwe and seven for Ireland with his last international game having been a one-off Test between the Chevrons and Ireland at Queens Sports Club, a venue where he made his red-ball debut in 2016.

He made his international debut for Zimbabwe in November 2014, in an ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur. His T20I debut also came in 2016, against Afghanistan. Moor played all his 49 ODIs and 21 T20Is for Zimbabwe.

He qualified to play for Ireland in October 2022 as a holder of an Irish passport as his paternal grandmother was Irish – and was first selected in their squad for the Test tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in March-April 2023.

“With no Test cricket on the horizon (Ireland do not play again until November), I have decided to move on with my life. The Test match in Zimbabwe (in February) is a fitting way to end my international career,” said Moor.
