In a telephone interview from Hwange yesterday, the Zifa Matabeleland North province chairman Dennis Chuma, confirmed the dates and said he was happy that he had a flawless season.
Chuma challenged the clubs in the running for a Division One Soccer League slot to seek sponsorship to enable them to compete.
“As a province we are worried with the way teams from Matabeleland North struggle in Division One and subsequently fail to fulfil their fixtures there. I am hopeful that the teams which will be promoted from our league will not fold next season and they will compete for the championship.
“What they must do to make sure that they survive in Division One is to have adequate resources to enable them to pay their players, cater for transport to and from games as well as match related costs,” Chuma said.
Projects, Power Cosmos and Rufaro Rovers are on their way out of the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League and they missed a number of their away matches due to lack of resources. ZPC Hwange, Hwange Juniors and Mpumalanga United are the only teams safe from relegation and guaranteed another year in Division One League.
Even teams from Victoria Falls have struggled to survive in the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League.
“In soccer, corporate support is needed and if Mkhosana fails to win play-offs, it means there won’t be Division One action in Victoria Falls again. I am appealing to companies in Matabeleland North Province to support local teams from Division Two up to Division One because we need another Premiership club from this area.
“Hwange FC has done well but we need another club that will compete in the topflight and that can only happen if the clubs and companies work together,” said Chuma.
